Diaspora Speaks is an up-and-coming and innovative magazine dedicated to publishing voices from diasporas. About 94% of journalists are White — this is a slightly higher proportion than that for the entire UK workforce (91%) as well as for the entire UK population in which a smaller 87% of people are White. Meanwhile, three quarters or 75% of students at Queen Mary, University of London are classifiable as BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic). It is due time that they have the opportunity to get involved in the media. We hope to tackle inequality in journalism and the media by helping students gain writing experience.
This is a platform for students to share their opinions and ideas through articles, letters, personal essays, poetry and much more. Most importantly, we want to break boundaries and support explorative writing. The content on our website aims to be fresh, unique, and thought-provoking, leaving readers with important questions about the world around them.
